APNEA Health
Sleep apnea diagnostics and treatment

Welcome to APNEA Health.

At our West Island local sleep apnea clinic, we specialize in diagnosis and treatment of sleep-disordered breathing.

Working closely with physicians and their patients to accurately diagnose and treat sleep-disordered breathing (SDB)

What is Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a breathing disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep that affects men and women of all ages.

It owes its name to a Greek word, apnea, meaning "want of breath".

There are two types of apneas, the more common obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and the less common central sleep apnea (CSA).

Who is at risk?
Patients suffering from the following conditions may be at risk
for OSA:
  • Overweight
  • Habitual snoring
  • High blood pressure
  • Family history of OSA or snoring
  • Small upper airway (large tongue, recessed chin, excess tissue in the throat and/or soft palate)
  • Factors which may make snoring and apnea worse on a given night:
  • Sleeping on the back
  • Alcohol at bedtime
  • Sleeping pills or narcotic (sedating) pain pills at bedtime
Home sleep testing

We also offer home sleep testing, that allows for faster diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Our tests are carried out in the comfort of your own home by a certified respiratory therapist and the data is interpreted by a respirologist specializing in sleep disorders.

Patients can expect results within 2 weeks of having our home sleep test.  A medical referral from your doctor is required.

CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy

APNEA Health also specializes in working with patients requiring CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy to treat sleep apnea.

Our comprehensive clinical program ensures that our patients receive effective CPAP therapy, with our primary goal of educating and following up with our patients, therefore improving their quality of life, their long-term health and reducing health risks associated with sleep apnea.
